20 Simple Homemade Gift Ideas

Homemade gifts are wonderful for any occasion. Typically easy on the budget, thoughtful and simple to put together. Homemade is always more appreciated and if it can be used up, then we’re not burdening others with clutter.
Here are some great ideas from some of my favorite bloggers:

Edible Gifts:

Homemade Vanilla Extract From Live Simply:
Vanilla extract is easy to make and is lovely to receive. I find it tastes better than store-bought, and works great for people with diet restrictions, since commercial vanilla extract includes sugar to speed up the process, homemade extract can take the time and develop the body and flavor that vanilla beans are truly capable of.

Citrus Salt from The Dabblist
Do you have someone who enjoys margaritas? These would also be great for the foodie or chef on your gift list. Delicious in seafood dishes, stir fry and add a kick to lightly cooked veggies.

Chili Powder from An Organic Wife What foodie wouldn’t want an amazing chili powder?! Using high quality ingredients and good chili will add authentic flavor to any Mexican-style dish they make.

5-Minute Fudge
So yummy! Really, you can’t go wrong with chocolate. If you’re concerned about nut allergies- just add a dried tart fruit like cherries or cranberries. Now I want some!

Pumpkin Spice Soaked Granola from Mommypotamus
Granola is often requested for gifts from me. Most people absolutely love homemade granola but don’t want to take the time to make it themselves, so definitely appreciate it when they receive it.

Turrón de Navidad: A Spanish Almond and Honey Candy from Nourished Kitchen
Easy, delicious, and beautiful. Stick these little goodies into a food basket and everyone will love you for it.

Beauty Gifts:

DIY Chai Spice Balm from Homegrown & Healthy Chai spice balm. A warming lip balm, hydrating hand and cuticle balm or exotic, spicy natural perfume.
Spices can easily be infused together to simplify the process, or use your favorite chai tea.

DIY Lemon Face Cream from Rethink Simple This would be lovely in a basket of beauty products, along with some lip balm and bath salts. It’s great to spoil people with healthy gifts.

DIY Peppermint Lip Balm
This is seriously the best lip balm I have ever had and peppermint is an energizing aroma and the added vitamin E makes for nice kissable lips.

Handmade Face Lotion Bar from Don’t Waste the Crumbs
This lotion bar is perfect to add to the basket of homemade beauty products. With vanilla flakes added, this lotion bar looks dreamy.

Lavender Bath Salts from Healing Cuisine
Bath salts are wonderful, relaxing, and super easy to make. I got the kids involved when we made them for gifts and they were very proud to give them to their grandmas and aunties.

Sandalwood and Vanilla Solid Perfume Recipe from Mommypotamus Ok, this looks so beautiful. Seriously, if you make this for gifts, please put me on your gift-giving list. Because I want some.

Eco-Friendly Gifts:

Mini Bags for Small Bulk Items from Attainable Sustainable Great for the Eco-shopper who buys in bulk. It’s always nice to get home-sewn gifts and these look super quick to sew up.

Reusable Sandwich Wraps from Oh, The Things We’ll Make
Wraps are so easy to use and easier to clean up than baggies. Home sewn items are always great because you can pick fabric to match their interests.

Easy DIY Pallet Art from Mommypotamus
Unique art is a fun gift for the artsy-fartsy in your life. Reduce, Reuse and Recycle- a total bonus that it looks awesome.

Homemade Beeswax Candles from Mommypotamus
Aside from being absolutely beautiful, beeswax candles also help purify the air and smell delicious.

Gifts for Children:

Books on CD from Kitchen Stewardship
My friend Jenni did this for us and it was one of the most wonderful gifts my kids have gotten. Then they could sit, turn the pages and listen to a friend read them a story. She’s a great storyteller, so it’s always fun to listen to when we need a quiet break.

DIY Organic Calming PlayDoh with Lavender and Magnesium from Health, Home, and Happiness Playdoh is the ultimate gift for kids and to have it calming. Oh yes, let’s play with playdoh!

Homemade Play Silks from Health, Home, and Happiness Play silks are great fun and great for the imagination. My kids often tie them around their necks for superhero capes or drape them over chairs to make forts.

Balance Board from Elsie Marley Simple and fun! Make sure the kids have a bit of open area to practice in, but what a great way to work on exercise and have a ton of fun as well!

Thank you for the reminder! I made lavender bath salts last year for a friend. Making gifts at home is so much more satisfying and enjoyable than going shopping during pre-christmas madness!
