2015 in 2015 Decluttering Challenge

2015 in 2015 Decluttering Challenge

Are you ready to make a change in your home this year?

Last year over 1094 people downloaded the 2014 in 2014 chart. That’s a whole lot of people making a big difference in their homes!

Are you ready to make a commitment and purge 2015 things from your life this year?

How to use the chart:

  • Each time you get rid of an item, put an “X” on a square (or black it out, depending on who’s helping check the boxes!!)
  • The rules are your own: If you have a stack of magazines to get rid of, you may count it as one item, or you can count each magazine as an item. You may even guess the number! The point is just to get rid of it.
  • Keep the chart on the front of the refrigerator or inside a cupboard where you can watch your progress and keep motivated.
  • If you have children, get them involved! Let them mark the boxes. Use different colors for different family members so they can see how much they contributed!
  • Plan out a celebration after each hundred is reached.

I completed the 2014 in 2014 last year, and I’m into the 700s already in my 2015 in 2015 chart! Love this challenge.

      Awesome job!!

I’m enjoying your site however don’t see how to read past articles besides choosing one on the right hand side. Do you have links on posts to go to the next or last one? I don’t see it. Or, an archives list to read past posts? thanks!

Hi Shelley, thanks to you, I realized I didn’t have a “read next” button on the bottom of my posts, so I installed one. You can also read by category on the side of the page.

      Thanks!

I linked back to you and your challenge in my latest post: http://heavenissmilingabove.blogspot.com/2015/01/a-house-of-order.html

Thanks for a great printable and a wonderful article on Becoming Minimalist.

Hi Rachel, I’m joining in. It’s my 1st time, I hope my family can join more and more the minimalist lifestyle. Till today I still just can declutter 42 items/set of items, and home is still far from organized systematically. Hope I can keep up with the challenge. Cheers.

I’ve been on a roll for he past few months since I discovered your site. I’ll start counting now what we’ve already take out of the house but I know it was a whole lot (at least 10 full boxes to donate and 5 garbage bags and a number of items that I sold). Our rooms look amazing. It is so freeing. I know it will be a continuous adventure but one that I am seeing the benefits of.

That’s so wonderful to hear Meaghan!

This started off fabulously and went on for about a month until chaos took over once more , and I lost my list.

I would love to join this but have already removed hundreds of items from my home in the past few months. How could I figure it out or shall I just wait for the 2016 declutter?

You can jump in where you are, guestimate how much you’ve gotten rid of- it doesn’t matter. There are no specific rules and you always win when you get rid of things, no matter the number. 🙂

Hi Rachel, WIL, you please remind me how many times you did this type of yearly challenge before you and your family found the right range of stuff and the best daily habits. I thought I reve beret it took 3 or 4 annual charts. Thanks!

    • Rachel on 12/15/2015 at 4:47 pm

Hi Luna, yes, we did it for 3 years before I noticed the difference (it was graduale, I noticed when looking at older pictures). And we filled the chart 5 times. We still do it each year, but haven’t filled it. I think we still marked close to 400 this year.

I took the 2015 challenge and finished a few days before Christmas. At times I did get bogged down and felt that there was nothing more to be eliminated, but at those times I just gave myself a break and let it go for a while. Sure enough, I would open a cabinet or closet door and think, “What am I keeping this stuff for?” Then, voila! Another hundred or so items to the Catholic Ladies Rummage Room! Thank you for the charts and the “how-to’s.” I especially like the 20-20 rule. I am ready to start the 2016 challenge!
