Didn’t have apples so I subbed pears…it was really good!
Awesome! I bet it was!
My mother calls this waldorf salad. A fall favorite for my family. We use walnuts instead of sunflower and moms ‘touch’ is to mix a tablespoon or so of a sweet red salad dressing in with the mayo. Mm Mm… Making me hungry.
My mom made this “Waldorf” salad (with walnuts) and so do I, it’s one of our staples. In the fall when I have pomegranates I add some of the ruby red berries to the salad. I never thought about using pears but will certainly give it a try, sounds really yummy.
So I never liked waldorf salad because I’m not a walnut fan. I was messing around with fruit/celery salads when I came up with this one. LOL Yup- your right, it is waldorf! What a dork I am. Ha! So I guess I like waldorf salad now. 🙂
Shades of my childhood rise again to greet me! I had an apple for breakfast this morning and that drew me back to this salad, which my mom made weekly for our family. Not as ‘fancy’ as a Waldorf, but just as good and healthy if using minimal mayo just to lightly dress it. Chopped pecans here in the South, of course!
I love childhood memories like that! ❤️
