What gets stuffed under your kitchen sink?
Single rose vases?
Bad chemicals that you’ve sworn off of, but don’t know what to do with?
A cast iron dutch oven that didn’t get cleaned after that roast 4 months ago and now you’re afraid of it?
Oops- that was me! (When I was around 20 I was trying to clean for guests really quick and stuffed the dirty dutch oven under the sink… where it sat for about 4 months… a year. Because I forgot about it. Yes. That is my shameful past.
Okay- moving on! What should you store under your kitchen sink?
I love the look of a minimalist home. It’s simple, clean, open and inviting.
But that doesn’t come naturally for most of us. It’s not like you just decide to be a minimalist, get rid of clutter and then it stays that way.
No… it’s a constant process. A journey. A change of lifestyle and habits.
It’s in the cupboards and drawers that you really feel it.
For most people under the kitchen sink tends to be a catch all. Similar to the junk drawer.
But let’s change that right now!
Put all the usable things: vases, fish bowl, etc, in a donate box. Take it right out to your car.
Throw out unusable things: old toothbrushes, empty S.O.S pad boxes, old fish food. Toss them in that trash can!
Box up the unwanted chemicals: 409, soft scrub, scouring powder. These are not healthy for your family or your environment (more on that later). Contact your local waste management to find out how to dispose of them. Each region has different regulations.
Now for the fun part! Putting in what you want!
Here is what I have:
|I found a wonderful cabinet organizer
that I used for my dish cloths,
garbage bags and misc. cleaning items.
The benefit to having just what you need under your sink? Having just what you need!
No sense in taking up space with the miscellaneous things that you don’t use and don’t need.
I love knowing exactly where things are. And it’s so nice to open the cupboard and not have a dutch oven bad memories hiding under the clutter.
