How to Sprout Lentils

I’ve been cooking with sprouted lentils for a few years now and I will never go back! I love the way they taste and how quick they cook up.

Step 1

They have great flavor and can be eaten in salads, made into lentil burgers, cooked in soups or our favorite: Super Easy Lentil Chili!
Sprouted Lentils
Ingredients:
2 cups dry lentils
Filtered Water
Half Gallon Jar
Sprouting Lid or Cheesecloth
Directions:

Step 2
Step 1: put 2 1/2 cups dry lentils into
a half gallon jar. Fill with filtered water
and allow to sit 8-12 hours.
Step 2: Place sprouting screen or cheesecloth held in
place with a rubber band over the top of the jar.
Drain the water and allow to sit upside down in a bowl.
Step 3: Rinse, drain and place upside down in bowl, once each day.
After 24 hours the lentils are beginning to sprout. Depending on your
personal preference, you can use them now or wait for them to sprout more.
Day 3 ~ all sprouted!
By the third day lentils have sprouted and are ready for cooking.
Step 4: Remove screen or cheese cloth, use lentils
immediately or put a regular lid on them and store them
in the fridge until you are ready to use them.

Now, how about some of that Chili?!

how long will they keep in the fridge?

Does it matter what color Lentils?

At least a few days, depending on how much moisture is in them, they may start to mold. I’ve always used them within 3 or 4 days.

I believe you can sprout any type of lentil, but I haven’t experimented with too many. I typically have brown or green and I have seen people do it with orange.

Please come back and post your experience!
