2015 in 2015 Decluttering Challenge

2015 in 2015 Decluttering Challenge

Are you ready to make a change in your home this year?
Last year over 1094 people downloaded the 2014 in 2014 chart. That’s a whole lot of people making a big difference in their homes!
Are you ready to make a commitment and purge 2015 things from your life this year?

Click Here to get your 2015 in 2015 Decluttering Chart

How to use the chart:

  • Each time you get rid of an item, put an “X” on a square (or black it out, depending on who’s helping check the boxes!!)
  • The rules are your own: If you have a stack of magazines to get rid of, you may count it as one item, or you can count each magazine as an item. You may even guess the number! The point is just to get rid of it.
  • Keep the chart on the front of the refrigerator or inside a cupboard where you can watch your progress and keep motivated.
  • If you have children, get them involved! Let them mark the boxes. Use different colors for different family members so they can see how much they contributed!
  • Plan out a celebration after each hundred is reached.
  • Join the community and share setbacks and victories with others who are decluttering as well. Click here to join the Nourishing Minimalism Facebook Group

*PLEASE NOTE: If you are already signed up for my newsletter, I emailed a link to you December 26. If you didn’t noticed it, check different folders (promotional, spam, etc.)

Is there a dedicated twitter # for this challenge? I’d love to use it as I track my progress throughout the year.

I just sent my email address and all I got in return was an email with the link back to this page, no chart. Might want to look into that

    • Rachel on 12/29/2014 at 6:12 pm

If you entered your email address after clicking the yellow button, it should be in your inbox with the title “2015 IN 2015 CHART”. If you don’t see it, check your spam or junk folder.

Would a person account for the items they bring into their home as well creating a balance of in and out.

    • Rachel on 01/01/2015 at 10:00 pm

You can do it however you wish. 🙂 Some people do, some people don’t, so basically, use the chart in whichever way you need it most.

thank you for this, yet again!! we’re loving the inspiration at our house, as last year we ended with a total of 9350 things OUT. love love love the new, decluttered space we have everywhere!! we’d been decluttering incremently since 2010, but not until we started keeping a tally on our chalkboard wall did we really hit inspiration!! I never would’ve thought to count our declutters had it not been for your ideas here.
we decided this year to mark our total from 2014, & then just keep counting. the kids love it, as they get screentime minutes for decluttering their own things, & at every thousand things out, we have a feast of their choosing. we’re gluten-free, so they usually ask for sandwiches. 😉
it’s really gotten to be our lifestyle, now, all this outing. i’m certain we’ve found our way, & I can’t help be thrilled that my kids get to grow up in a minimalist-y home. it’s done wonders for all four of them.
I just wanted to say thanks. 🙂

Ah, thank you so much for telling me! I love hearing that!

I just joined your page I received the print out but I’m not sure how to use it yes I’m a blonde lol

    • Rachel on 01/09/2015 at 8:48 pm

🙂 Each time you declutter an item, whether it’s trash or donated, you color in one square. Some people count every single little thing, others count each bag or box. It doesn’t matter, as long as it helps you declutter. 🙂 You can get more ideas of how people use the chart if you join the facebook group: https://www.facebook.com/groups/756497587732249/

Love this chart! I think it helps/inspires my kids to see the chart filling up. They have always been reluctant to let go of stuff, so I have used this chart very leniently (every scrap of paper or broken crayon counts). We’re past the halfway mark already!

    • Rachel on 01/17/2015 at 7:58 pm

      That’s great!!

We just joined yesterday and today we decluttered 525 items, we brought them all to donation, with the exception of a few items to the trash! My daughter joined in and donated 65 items! I thought we had a very organized house until I decided to do this challenge, now I’m thinking it’s just organized clutter! It’s so great to keep and see a tally of what’s going out, it makes it much easier and it’s quite rewarding seeing all those boxes fill up! I’m quite embarrassed to actually see all the things we don’t use, let alone it hasn’t really made much of a dent just because we cleaned out drawers and closets today… little by little… we will get there. Thanks so much!

I started a bit late, but I just reached 300 items out the door! We’re moving in a month to our new home (we’re in a rental for the moment) and having moved four times in 8 years, I’ve ended up with “mystery boxes” that keep getting shoved into attics, cupboards, and so on. I’m so done with hauling crap around that I never use! I keep ending up with duplicates of things because I can’t find things after moving. So this challenge is a huge blessing for me.
One thought for your readers, I have added incentives at various “achievements” and those have been driving me to keep going as well. If I’m close to an incentive, I kind of go crazy trying to find things to get rid of. Today I was 49 boxes away from being able to order new soup bowls that match. I ended up spending the morning throwing things out, and was able to order my bowls! Now I can get rid of our mis-matched bowls and check those off too.
Another thing I love about this, is that we’re taking everything to local charities who need specific items such as mens, womens or childrens clothing, kitchen items, household items, and so on. It is a pleasure to know these things that have cluttered up my life will go to good use and improve conditions for someone who needs them.
    Thanks for your awesome challenge!
    Melissa

That’s so great Melissa! I love the incentives!

I already did the minimalism game by theminimilists.com and am in the right mindset for more decluttering now. So I am starting the challenge today (with the 496 minsgame items counting for it as well). I am very excited! Thank you!
