Clutter-Free Stocking Stuffers

If you celebrate the holidays with gifts in the stocking, you know that many of the “stocking stuffers” toted in the stores are trinkets. It’s easy to fill a stocking with cheap gadgets and do-dads… and then wonder in the days that follow where on earth you should put these “handy” items.

I enjoy the stocking tradition, but in order to avoid bringing clutter into the home, I opt for only consumable and/or useful items. I also limit what I put in the stocking, most of the time it is 5 items or less. I get away with this, because one year I sewed matching stockings for our whole family, and I made them 1/2 the size of the average stocking.

Thanks for some great idea Rachel. We also add toothbrushes, toothpaste, soap, deodorant, body wash, and shampoo. Now that our teen are becoming adults and leaving home they love these practical gifts. When they were little they love bubble bath, and numerous other bath related items. A few of these items help fill a larger stocking.
    Have a blessed Christmas, Carol.

yes, agree! post christmas knick knacks are problematic. i like the idea of gift cards (amazon gift cards are a bit hit with millenials who buy almost everything online now). Moso bags are also a great idea.. eco friendly and useful. thanks for sharing!

Agreed! When I had my own family I found I resented buying things because they were inexpensive and small just to fill up stockings. I am a book lover, so when I realized my little one was a great age to create a tradition, our stockings became books only. Throughout the year I build up a list of great books I am pining for for her and myself and select a few for the stocking. I am hoping as she gets older she will have her own book list for Santa!

Thank you! I love these ideas. This is our first Christmas with our little one and I’m trying to get ahead of the avalanche of plastic toy crap and overwhelm. I’m all about the food and goodies during Christmas and love the idea of making gifts consumables instead of clutter to fill space❤️🎄❤️
