Marketers have directed their attention to cleaning supplies, because we so desperately want something that magically makes everything beautiful, clean and sparkling, huge bonus if we don’t actually have to touch it.
But with all the “amazing” products, come the nasty chemicals. For me, removing soap scum from the shower/bath was my biggest challenge. I did find some products that did a good job, but with the horrible chemical smell that would carry over from week to week and knowing that our feet absorb things into our system quickly, I always felt awful about cleaning the tub and then having my precious babies bathe in it.
I hated having all sorts of cleaners for different things. I remember worrying about using windex on my mirror, toilet bowl cleaner and soap scum cleaner in the shower all while I was cleaning the bathroom. That many different chemical fumes can’t be good for a person to inhale!

Now, I’ve settled on the most minimal amount of cleaning products and detergents that I could. These products are all wonderful and I love them! When purchasing cleaning supplies, it is important to get just what you use. No amount of products are going to clean your house for you. So stick with what you use regularly.
Branch Basics. 1 cleaner for the entire house. Including hand soap, laundry and dishes. That’s right- this stuff is seriously amazing! Simply purchase a bottle of concentrate and then mix different ratios for different uses (they explain how on the bottle). So, yes, you have a few different bottles to keep in your cleaning cupboard, but it’s all the same ingredients. I like to add essential oils to mine. My favorite essential oils are lemon and the protective blend.
Norwex. I just use a couple things- the basic cleaning cloths- blue and purple and the large mop. I love how I only need water to clean the mirror and shine the sink. No need for any cleaner there- and it does a marvelous job on the toilet, I love knowing that all the germs are gone.
The majority of our floors are hardwood and the dry mop works so well, it’s simple to just have the kids run through the house with it every day. With the wet mop- I just use water and essential oil (normally the protective blend or lemon). Essential oils. Good quality essential oils are so effective and I love combining health benefits with my cleaning routine. They protect against environmental threats, freshen air and drains, de-funk the laundry with just a couple drops, plus know that my families health is benefitting. Seriously- they are some of my favorite things!
My favorite essential oil is the protective blend, which supports healthy immune function. I use it year round to clean counters and mop the floor. If you would like to learn more about essential oils and the company I use, contact me here.
