Kitchen Organization: Drinking Glasses

Do you have random glasses cluttering up your counter tops?
Hearing “Is this my cup?” “Did someone drink out of this one??” “Which one is mine?
Someone asking if you’ve put the glass they just got into the dishwasher… yet again?
Let’s solve that problem!
There are two ways to solve it:
Color coding
Design coding
We have coded our glasses by design. I took all 5 kids to a thrift store and had them pick out their own groovy glass. (This would also work great with glasses like this or this.)
The kids always have the same glass and they sit in a row on the counter. At meal times, they retrieve their own glass and set it by their plate.
Set aside an area of your kitchen just for drinks. Store the coffee pot, coffee, tea, drinking glasses and water filter there. If your kitchen is large enough, have it away from your general cooking area so anyone can stop and quench their thirst without stepping into your cooking path.

In the evening, when everyone is headed to bed, toss them in the dishwasher with the last load, so they are all fresh and clean for the next day. If you hand wash, wash them when you wash the dinner dishes and set them back out for everyone in the morning.

I LOVE this idea! We always have so many glasses laying around. This is job #1 for me to organize and figure out once the kids are back in school.

Not so PC, I know, but we all just share the same glass. 😀

My children are still young (the oldest is 6) so during the day they each have a sippy of water (no spills this way) and during dinner they use 1 cup. It’s our plates and bowls that tend to get out of hand. Cups we are on top of.

We had issues with this. Now, I have my kids put a colored rubber band around their glass. They remember the color they chose. No issues.
