Furniture is the skeleton of a room, and with weak bones, you won’t get far. When styling a minimalist space, those bigger pieces are the first consideration.

Keep minimum furniture.

The first obvious grab to style a stronger minimalist space is to only use the required pieces to keep your space functional and comfortable.

This means giving some thought to what you actually need in your space. Discard what is no longer serving you, declutter the decor, then see what’s left.

Before purchasing anything new, I recommend shopping your home–check other rooms and storage spaces for pieces that might serve your needs.

TIP: If you’re aiming for a minimalist aesthetic, you might keep an eye out for natural materials (such as wood, stone, wool, or wicker) and clean lines in a simple color palette.

Tables with storage.

Hopefully you’ve hit the level of decluttered where you don’t need extensive storage space, but functional storage is always a must. We don’t want all of our everyday necessities cluttering up surfaces when they could be neatly tucked inside.

So let’s look at a few of my favorite tables with built-in storage.

Lift-Top Coffee Table

This Amethy Lift Top Coffee Table can double as a living room desk or dinner tray, plus multiple storage areas. A hidden compartment beneath the liftable table can hold items you’d like to store out of sight, office supplies, cleaning products, and cat treats. The cute open shelves are a great spot to stow books and reading materials, or easy access items like TV remotes.

Multifunctional Kitchen Island

This adorable and hyper-functional Dyches Kitchen Island is easily rolled wherever you need it for extra counter space, a chopping block, serving surface, or a mobile bar/drink cart for entertaining in different rooms of your house.

Storage space is in no shortage with this one–three drawers, two cabinets, two open shelves, a towel rack, and a convenient side caddy make this gorgeous piece a practical and functional addition to save space in your kitchen and dining area.

Entertainment Coffee Table

This Espedita Lift-Top Coffee Table is PERFECT for casual entertaining. The comfy seats nest neatly beneath it to save floorspace, and the liftable top hides storage for cards, boardgames, and other great hangout activities. I’m also just a sucker for a round table.

Since the seats slide perfectly out of the way when not in use, this is a great swap for your standard living room coffee table.

3-in-1 Gaming & Dining Table

And now for the ultimate multipurpose entertaining piece–The Hampton 3-in-1. This turns from a spacious dining table, to billiards, to table tennis.

Not only do you get three incredible uses from this high-quality table, but the bench seating doubles as extra storage with hinge lids!

Convertible seating.

In a tiny space, where you sit is often where you (or a guest) will sleep.

Sofa Bed & Desk

This Amelah Convertible Sofa Bed gives you three uses in one. A sofa or chaise for casual seating, a bed convenient for guests or a studio apartment, and an office desk!

Convertible Sleeper Sofa

The Heron Convertible Sleeper Sofa can morph between a sofa, lounger, or a bed with its hidden pull-out extender. Perfect for small spaces, kids’ rooms, sleepovers, or an extra comfy reading perch.

Sofa Bed or Movie Night

This gorgeous green Rosica Sleeping Sofa extends into a bed or extra comfy movie spot, with convenient side pockets, hidden storage, and matching pillows.

Convertible Folding Lounger.

This Convertible Folding Lounger brings me back to tweenhood. Don’t pass up on the coolest, comfiest perch spot for your favorite kid–or for yourself! I can never read in just one position for long, so a chair like this is perfect to follow the moving target of my spine’s preferred resting place.

Any of these minimalist furniture pieces will make a fabulous addition or replacement for a room makeover. There are so many styles and aesthetics you can focus on, but the baseline of simplicity, versatility, and functionality are what make this collection amazing.

So embrace an easier life and a more spacious home, then let us know how you like it!
