What is Mins Game?

“MinsGame” is short for Minimalism Game, a monthly decluttering challenge created by The Minimalists. This challenge is designed to simplify your life and space, as well as promote the minimalist lifestyle.

How to play Mins Game.

This challenge is simple! On the first day of the month, you declutter one item.

On the second day, declutter two. On the third, three.

And so on.

Some people like to play backwards, where on the first of the month, they declutter 31 items.

The second day, they declutter 30.

And so on.

Our downloadable tally chart is a free printable that allows you to participate and track your progress with either version of play.

March MinsGame Themes

When you’ve done a few rounds of the MinsGame, you might want to shake things up a little! Here are some March-specific categories you might tackle this month.

1. St. Paddy’s

For a little springtime fun, let’s do a Saint Patrick’s themed declutter!

This might be decluttering green items–seriously, it’s kind of fun to use a completely arbitrary category to make things interesting.

If you’re a big party thrower, maybe you go through your old supplies and decorations.

Alcohol (expired or unwanted), bar accessories, drinking glasses, and so on.

Saint Patrick’s Day-specific items, like decor and clothing.

2. Spring Break prep

Let’s get ready for Spring Break!

You can go through old luggage and unwanted travel items, beachwear, pool toys, expired sunscreen, and so on.

3. Spring cleaning

A little prep for spring cleaning can go a long way in expediting the process. Take this opportunity to go through your garden tools, old planters, seeds from years ago, unused cleaning supplies, and outdated outdoor equipment.

4. March Madness

Sporty family? Let’s get into your old sports equipment, unworn team merch, and exercise gear you don’t use.

5. Tax season declutter

If you’re not the person who did their taxes in January (same), then you might take this month to get ready! Go through your old financial documents, scanning what you want to keep, shredding the rest.

Sort expired warranties, old receipts, and other paperwork. While you’re at it, maybe you can go through your office supplies, too!
