I hope you’re ready to hit the ground running this year with the annual decluttering challenge!
If you’re feeling overwhelmed with the prospect of decluttering your home, let’s simplify it. This challenge helps you get rid of stuff without all the overthinking.
HEY! This is last year’s challenge–here’s 2,026 in 2026.

What is 2,025 in 2025?
This is an annual decluttering challenge–remove 2,025 items from your home before the end of the year!
If that sounds like way more than you have to declutter, consider that the average US home has over 300,000 items. 😱 An annual purge like the 2025 challenge can help you to keep steady progress until you find your home’s equilibrium.

How to participate in 2,025 in 2025.
Step one is to download your 2025 tally chart to track your progress. Find it below.
Then get decluttering! 2,025 fewer items in your home can make a big difference. Make it extra fun by getting your family members involved! Some participants like to use different colored markers or pens for each family member to start a little friendly competition and make things more fun.
All you have to do is fill your tally chart by the end of the year.
Don’t worry about categories, or even locations–just remove 2,025 items!

Customize the challenge.
Feel free to tweak the challenge and create your own rules to customize the experience!
1. Only count significant pieces.
This means not counting paper clutter, cleaning supplies, little tidbits from the junk drawer, expired food, and other tiny things that are probably already considered trash. Focus on bigger items. Challenge yourself to really dig in to create a clutter free home.
2. Go by category or area.
If you have a specific space in mind for this time in your decluttering journey, you might focus your efforts on one room or category. If you want a more focused process for this challenge, this is a great way to do it.
But don’t feel the need to impose rhyme or reason! If you want to sprint through the house making random decisions, that works too!
3. Set smaller milestones.
To keep yourself on track, you might set specific goals within the year, like 200 items per month. This can help you stay consistent without getting overwhelmed.
4. Divide the items.
It might make it conceptually easier to think about 2,025 items in terms of specific categories. For example, set to declutter 300 clothing items and accessories, 60 kitchen items, etc. You know where you have the bulk of your clutter, so consider your unique situation!
5. Set up a reward system.
Reward yourself for your achievements! Whether that’s hitting another 100 items, making a particularly hard decision, or wrapping up an area or category, give yourself a lil treat! Or make a celebratory post in our Facebook group to keep the hype going all year!

I tried 365 items in 2024, but am at 210 now. There will be a surge in the next few days, but my realistic goal for 2025 will be another 365 items.
