How to play Mins Game

Mins Game is a monthly decluttering challenge coined by The Minimalists. The rules are simple!

  • On the first day of the month, declutter one item.
  • On the second day, declutter two items.
  • Third day, three items.
  • And so on.

Some folks like to mix things up and place in reverse. For September, that would look like:

  • On the first day of the month, declutter thirty items.
  • On the second day, declutter twenty-nine.
  • Until the last day of the month, where you’ll declutter only one item.

The chart provided above works for either style of play! By the end of the month, you’ll have decluttered hundreds of items.

September Mins Game Themes

Here at Nourishing Minimalism, we love to supply a few monthly themes to choose from, if you’re a regular player of Mins Game who’s ready to shake things up a little. Here are our ideas for this month’s game.

Library Card Month

September is Library Card Sign-Up month, so you could take a look at your book collection. Clear out unwanteds by making a library donation. While you’re there, sign up or update your library card and check out a few titles!

Cozy Season Prep

The holidays are winding around again, so you might take the opportunity to check out your supplies.

  • Declutter the living room for cozy fall movie nights
  • Declutter and organize candles, throws, and fall decorations
  • Kitchen refresh: clear out summer party serving dishes to prep for fall baking and soup season
  • Pantry rotation before fall cooking: use up or donate soon-to-expire items
  • Declutter all holiday decor

Outside Storage

The seasons are changing, so let’s dig into those sheds and workshops while the weather is still mild! September is usually a great time to evaluate your gardening and lawn supplies, clear space for winter storage, and dust off the next season’s decor to see what you still want.

Back To School

While the kiddos are in school, it might be a good time to go through categories like homework supplies, clothes and shoes, or even toys for the younger kids.
